5 Tips for Teaching Kindergarten
Teaching in kindergarten, what a pleasure but also what a challenge! Making children want to go to school, laying the educational and pedagogical foundations for their entire life as a student, teaching the art of learning together and living together, these are some of the major challenges for the kindergarten teacher.
1 – Personalize the welcome for each student
While arriving at school in the morning may seem routine, it is actually an important moment for children in preschool. They separate from their parents for a day of school and must find new bearings. This can be a big step for some children, especially the youngest and those with special needs in the context of inclusive schooling.
Welcoming each student individually in the morning helps to create a caring and secure atmosphere. It provides a framework, a point of reference from the start of the school year and throughout the year. It is an easy ritual to set up, which does not take much time and is still effective.
2 – Encourage oral language
In the midst of learning language and its richness, nursery school pupils develop this skill more or less quickly and therefore have a disparate level. It therefore appears essential to make this development a priority by using all the moments of class and life to interact with them and enrich their vocabulary. This will also allow children to learn vocabulary and pronunciation more easily.
Always with the aim of making themselves understood as well as possible by everyone, the teacher must ensure that they express themselves slowly, clearly and calmly to convey their message. Repetition and reformulation are the best friends of the kindergarten teacher! Oral language activities such as role-playing, conversations and songs can also be used to encourage children to express themselves.
3 – Offer varied and fun activities
Children learn best when they are engaged in fun and interactive activities . They help them develop their creativity, imagination, fine motor skills and problem-solving skills. For teachers, it is important to provide a variety of learning activities that actively engage children. It is also a way to maintain attention and stimulate their curiosity.
What activities in kindergarten? They must put students in a situation of success while promoting the development of new skills. Students will thus take more pleasure in learning! In order to vary the activities, you can rely on the many resources shared on the internet, or those available with most of our manuals and guides.

4 – Work in collaboration with parents
Parents are important partners in children’s education. It is important to maintain open and regular communication with parents to know their expectations, concerns and to share their child’s progress. In kindergarten, they are in regular contact with teachers, which facilitates this communication, which is in the interest of the students. Indeed, talking with their parents is another way to learn more about their emotional state .
How to set up this link with parents? Individual meetings, liaison notebooks and events such as open days can be organized to encourage collaboration. It may be interesting to install an ENT within your establishment: practical, accessible on all devices, these applications facilitate the sharing of information and also allow, for the most part, to share photos of everyday life.
