How to stimulate students’ interest in French in primary school?
Arousing and maintaining students’ interest in French while teaching the concepts prescribed by the learning progression program (PDA) can be quite a challenge. To make your life easier, Alloprof offers you in this article five ideas to try with your students in order to diversify your teaching approaches:
As you know, a love of reading develops in a non-linear way: sometimes you have to try different literary genres and give several different books a chance until you find THE book that opens the door to the wonderful world of reading. In this sense, it can be interesting to focus on pleasure in the daily reading period in class. Here are some ideas to encourage students to explore various literary possibilities:
Make author circles
A dynamic wayto integrate writingin their daily French class can be the creation of authors’ circles. You can suggest to students, firstly, to write a text around a theme or according to a given literary genre, with constraints, for example. Secondly, form small teams (of three to five people) who will share their creations, comment on them and revise them. In this way, students develop their autonomy by learning from each other and pooling their strengths. As a bonus, this is an approach that integrates the three skills in French: speaking, writing and reading!
